Annona

The annona is green, oval and it is coated by a thin and unusual peel. The white pulp is extremely sweet and soft, like a combination of banana, vanilla, mango, papaya and coconut. In Portugal, when there is lack of the national annona, the Brazilian atemoya and the Spanish cherimoya are used as substitutes.

The annona is frequently eaten fresh, cutting it in half and removing its seeds. It can be mashed into purée and also used in ice creams or other desserts with fruit flavours.
