Sweet Potato

The sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), also called land-potato, island-potato, jatica and jetica is a plant of the convulvulaceae family and Solanales order (the same of the potato, tomato, peppers, etc.). Its origin is the Andes. It spread through the tropics and subtropics all over the world.

The sweet potato is a reference having in mind the sweet taste of its edible tubercle. “Jetica” and “jatica” derive from the term tupi for the plant, ye'tika.
